The animal steps on a central bait pan mounted on a cross-shaped frame. This releases a swinging trigger dog, freeing a pair of arch-shaped jaws pivotally mounted in the upturned ends of the frame. Four coil springs, seated on the arms of a U-shaped retention pin, drive a pair of jaw actuators upward. The actuators embrace both jaws and force them to the closed position, while the spring pin lock holds the retention pin in place across the frame throughout.
