The animal enters the cage and steps on a bait treadle at the far end. The treadle transmits force through a linkage of pivoting release rods to a latch assembly at the door. A spring holds the latch under continuous force toward disengagement, so the tripped latch releases immediately. The guillotine-style door falls shut and the animal is confined inside the cage.
