The trapper lowers the body portion over the parallel jaws of a set rotating-frame trap while pulling a finger ring, which retracts three spring-loaded pins through cables running down the hollow handle. He rotates the device approximately 45 degrees so the jaws enter receiving spaces between triangular fingers and the bottom wall, then releases the ring; the pins extend and lock the device to the jaws. The trap may then be positioned anywhere, including underwater, and the device is removed by retracting the pins and rotating back. If the trap springs accidentally, a peripheral recess on the longest pin catches a jaw and holds the device captive until the trigger is reset. Foam-filled compartments render the device buoyant if dropped into water.
