The mouse enters through a hole in a fixed end plate, behind which a second plate is latched down with its own hole aligned. The mouse disturbs a baited trigger pivoted on the spring wire, breaking the latch. The spring snaps the movable plate upward, closing the opening and confining the mouse. The user then depresses a thumb tab and flips the casing to eject the mouse and reset the trigger without touching either.

“Another object is to provide an animal trap in which the trap may be opened and reset all with a simple manipulation of the wrist and thumb without touching the animal or the trigger mechanism.”— Robert F. Goostrey, from the specification
