A U-shaped wire jaw is pivoted on a rectangular base and driven by a coiled spring. A latch bar holds the jaw open against a shoulder on the bait-holding trigger plate; the mouse disturbs the bait and the jaw swings across the base and strikes it. One leg of the jaw is bent outward past the pivot to form a handle. The user grips the handle and swings the jaw open, so the dead mouse falls out or can be shaken from the trap without being handled.
